Quick Hulu Location Trick (Unblock Hulu Anywhere in the World)

Hulu Home Location Trick

Hulu is an awesome streaming platform, but it’s only available in the US. And even if you live in the US, you won’t be able to watch Hulu if you travel abroad.

But we’ll show you a fast and simple Hulu location trick that will let you unblock this site anywhere in the world. Also, we’ll answer some relevant questions – like how Hulu’s home location gimmick works and why Hulu uses it.

The best way to bypass Hulu’s home location is to use a VPN. It hides your IP address so Hulu won’t know where you’re actually located. It also encrypts your traffic so your ISP won’t be able to throttle your bandwidth when you binge Hulu.

Why Does Hulu Need My Location?

Hulu needs to know your location to serve you local channels. That includes national, regional, and local networks. Hulu signs licensing agreements to legally distribute specific channels in specific locations. But it can’t show the same content to everyone.

For example, Hulu might buy the right to stream a New York local network from CBS to its users who live in New York. But that doesn’t mean it can show the same local network to its users in Texas or California. If Hulu were to do that, it’d breach the licensing agreements it signed.

Similarly, Hulu doesn’t have the legal right to show its content in other countries than the US. It was only able to acquire the licensing rights for that region.

So, Hulu needs to know your real location to serve you the “right” content. It’s just a way for the company to make sure the licensing agreements it signed are enforced.

What Is Hulu’s Home Location Feature?

Hulu’s home location is a way to keep tabs on your actual location. It uses it to broadcast channels to its viewers while also respecting the licensing agreements it signed. To find your location, Hulu collects your IP address. It tells it what country you are from, what city you live in, and who your ISP is.

You can’t exactly change your home location whenever you want. Hulu will always see your IP address, so it will know if you’re pretending to be in another location. And if you live in the US and actually move to a new place, keep in mind Hulu only lets you change your location up to 4 times per year.

How to Get Around Hulu Home Location (Step-by-Step Guide)

Hulu uses your IP address to determine what your location is, so you need to hide it. The best way to do that is to use a VPN. It’s an online app that hides your IP address by routing your traffic through a VPN server. Basically, you surf the web using the VPN server’s IP.

Here’s how to change your Hulu location with a VPN:

  1. Subscribe to a good VPN. We recommend NordVPN.
  2. Download and install the VPN provider’s app.
  3. Open the VPN app and connect to a US server.
  4. Access Hulu and start binging your favorite shows!

Why Doesn’t the Hulu Location Trick Work with a VPN Sometimes?

VPNs are really good Hulu unblocking tools, but they sometimes have trouble unblocking this site. Here’s why that happens:

Hulu Blocks the VPN

Hulu is pretty aggressive when it comes to blocking VPNs. It likely has access to large databases that contain VPN IP addresses. To block them, it probably uses automated scripts.

If the Hulu location trick doesn’t work for you, there’s a chance Hulu blocked the IP of the VPN server you’re using. To bypass that issue, just refresh the IP if that option is available or connect to a different US server.

You’ll normally encounter this issue with free VPNs or bad VPN providers. They don’t refresh their IP addresses as fast as the VPNs on our list do. So, Hulu is able to block them pretty quickly.

Hulu Checks Your GPS Data

Sometimes, Hulu doesn’t only use your IP address to determine your location. It also uses your device’s GPS data. In that case, a VPN can’t really help you. If you use one, Hulu will see the VPN’s IP, but it will know your real location because it also sees your GPS data. If that happens, you won’t be able to change your Hulu home location.

A few VPNs have a workaround for this – they offer a feature that hides your GPS data too. For example, Surfshark’s Android app offers that.

An alternative option is to use a streaming device with a VPN – like a Roku. Apparently, Hulu first sets the home location by focusing on your “living room device.” Streaming devices don’t have GPS services, so Hulu can’t get GPS data from them – just the IP address. And if Hulu first interacts with the device via a VPN’s IP, it will associate the home location with that IP.

But streaming devices don’t have native support for VPNs. To use them together, you need to set up the VPN on your router. That way, when the streaming device goes online, it uses the router’s VPN connection. Most VPNs have easy-to-follow tutorials that show you what to do. ExpressVPN even has a router app that’s easy to install and is simple to use.

Can You Do the Hulu Location Trick with Other Apps?

The only other services you can use include Smart DNS tools and proxies:

  • Smart DNS – these services hide your location by masking your DNS address instead of your IP. They don’t encrypt your traffic, so your speeds will be faster than with a VPN. Most top VPNs include Smart DNS functionality alongside their VPN service.
  • Proxies – they hide your IP address just like VPNs. But proxies don’t use encryption, so they can’t secure your traffic. Still, that does mean you get faster speeds.

Some people also say you can use Tor. While it hides your location, it likely won’t unblock Hulu. It’s not built for streaming, but for privacy. In our tests, it didn’t work with Hulu at all. Plus, Tor is extremely slow – we experienced 90-95% slowdowns on average.

Conclusion

Hulu wants to know your location because it needs it to deliver local channels to you. Also, it needs your location to enforce the licensing agreements it signed. There’s a Hulu location trick that lets you bypass that detection – using a VPN. By hiding your IP, it will prevent Hulu from knowing where you’re located.

Do you have experience with using a Hulu VPN? Did it work well? Which VPN did you use? Please tell us about your experience in the comments.
